CATNIP PILLOW: TUTORIAL + KITTEN REVIEW

Cats love to play with anything they can find, but when it has catnip in it, they go WILD! The kittens in my fostercare love playing with feathers as much as they love catnip, so I thought, why not combine them? In this post you will find a tutorial on how to make your own catnip pillow and you will see how my kitten reacted to it. Enjoy!

WHAT YOU NEED

  • sewing machine

  • catnip

  • spoon

  • glue (preferably textile glue)

  • thread in matching colour with your fabric

  • crochet needle / pencil

  • stuffing

  • 2 square pieces of fabric

  • 2 feathers

  • scissors

Start by putting your 2 pieces of fabric on top of each other, with the wrong side facing outwards.

Sew three sides of the fabric together. Don't forget to double stitch at the beginning and the end to make it more secure. Sew one side, this lift your pressing platen while leaving the needle down, and turn your fabric. Cut the loose threads.

Flip the pillow inside out. Use your crochet needle or pencil to push the corners out and to make it nice and square.

Take half a teaspoon of catnip and put in into the pillow. Put a little bit of stuffing on top.

Fold the top of the pillow to the inside, to make it straight. Push it down so it stays like this. This will make it easier to insert the feathers and to sew it shut.

Add a little bit of textile glue to the ends of the feathers. Gently put the feathers inside of the pillow and press it to make sure it stays in. If you want, you can add two tiny drops in the outer corners of the pillow and push it so it will close. This makes it easier to sew later on.

Now place the pillow on the sewing machine so that you can sew the open side shut. Don't forget to double stitch at the end of the beginning for extra security. Cut off the loose threads.

All done! Now let's see what the kittens think of the pillow.

I put the pillow down on the floor and within a second my kitten flew at it. The catnip really attracts the cats and the feathers make it even more fun to play with! My kittens love it and hopefully yours will too!

Good luck making this for your cats!

You can also order some of these through my social media!

Paws and purrs,
