HOW I STARTED FOSTERING KITTENS

Everyone who knows me, knows that I have always been a crazy cat lady. I've had cats my entire life, including some litters of kittens. But fostering kittens, knowing that I would have to let them go again, is not something I thought I would ever do when I was younger. Until...

I came across a Facebook post of a local animal shelter that was looking for foster families to care for motherless kittens until they were healthy and ready to get adopted. I was hooked immediately. I knew I would want to spend my time caring for those tiny babies, but there was one big problem left. My family and especially my dad.

So before asking my parents, I decided to book an appointment at the shelter just to get some information about fostering and what it was all about. Let's say that this is not what happened. Little did I know there were two very cute kittens waiting for a foster family the day I visited the shelter...

Obviously, I knew that I wanted to foster kittens by the time I entered. I just didn't succeed to convince my parents yet. But I couldn't let those kittens sit there in those tiny cages. I went home and talked to my parents, who were not easily convinced. But with all my love for cats I managed to talk them into fostering them.

So I went back to the shelter to pick up my first two foster kittens. As a foster family I didn't have to buy anything. The shelter has everything you could ever need to foster the kittens, so it doesn't cost you anything, except for the transport costs. So I got a big cage, a scratch pole, food bowls, litter boxes... Anything you could think of was put in my car ready to set up my foster space at home.
